I just saw the new Silver Surfer, excuse me, Fantastic Four trailer and it looks awesome. Hope the movie is as good as the teaser! When I was the character designer on the short lived animated series we hoped they’d do a Surfer movie so it’s great to see that ten years later he’s getting his shot.

The fine folks over at TEENS READ TOO were kind enough to interview me. Go to TEENS READ TOO and check it out!
I talk about Zapt, Actionopolis, and other zany things those wacky teens are all talking about!
THE SPIDER CHRONICLES Diamond order number is Oct063571.

The story I did in MOONSTONE’s upcoming book, THE SPIDER CHRONICLES, has been solicited. Woohoo! It’s the first full prose story I’ve done. NORTH & SOUTH author John Jakes has also contributed a story in this awesome pulp anthology!
The book is filled with the further adventures of one of the 1930’s greatest PULP characters so please check it out!

Over Thanksgiving weekend at Mid-Ohio-Con, Dan Mishkin was interviewed about his illustrated young adult novel THE FOREST KING: WOODLARK’S SHADOW, and the podcast of that interview has now been posted at Fist Full of Comics.
In the interview Dan gives the story behind the story–what the book’s about, how writing it was different from writing comics, the ways in which the book’s young hero is and is not like his creator, working with artist Tom Mandrake, and more. I hope you’ll give it a listen.
Big news (for me)…

PRAISE FOR COMMON FOE…
“An inspired genre mash-up. When it begins, you think you’re reading an excellent, hard-boiled war comic, then the floor drops out from beneath you and you realize that the term “horrors of war” has shadings that most of us have never considered.”
-DWAYNE MCDUFFIE ( producer of Warner Bros. JUSTICE LEAGUE and STATIC SHOCK)
“With Common Foe, Denton and Giffen have taken the war comic and given it the best twist I’ve seen in a few decades. Highly enjoyable and gripping stuff.” – ED BRUBAKER (Writer of CAPTAIN AMERICA, DAREDEVIL, CRIMINAL, SLEEPER, IRON FIST)
“A war comic with a twist. Visceral and guttural. This team provides a great slow burn tale that eventually explodes in a glorious orgy of vampire violence.” – JOE CASEY ( Co-creator of Cartoon Network’s BEN 10 )
“Writer Keith Giffen and Shannon (Eric) Denton craft a rat-a-tat narrative…”-ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

PRAISE FOR ZAPT!…
ZAPT!: “For a younger audience, the comic seems bullet proof. It’s hard to imagine a young reader not deriving some enjoyment from Zapt!’s speed, humor and well constructed narrative.”- AIN’T IT COOL NEWS
ZAPT!: “This is a cleverly written book, with a ton of action and just enough P.O.O.P. jokes to keep the kids snickering.”- COMICS IN THE CLASSROOM
ZAPT!: “A fun book for children and adults alike. A Saturday morning cartoon on paper.” – THE COMICS REVIEW
ZAPT!: “…an amazing all-ages adventure with a likeable hero that is easily accessible to everyone – from the most seasoned Tokyopop reader to the under-nourished novice” – NEWSARAMA
ZAPT!: “It’s aimed at a much younger market, and I think is perfect for that audience.” – COMIC BOOK RESOURCES
ZAPT!: “Great stuff! A rocketing thrill-ride to the stars!” – KEVIN GREVIOUX, creator of the film UNDERWORLD and writer on Marvel’s NEW WARRIORS
ZAPT!: “ZAPT! has all the heart, humor, visual style and energy you could ask for! Armand Jones is who I wanted to be when I was ten years old — an ordinary kid thrown into an extraordinary adventure…and coming up aces. Fast and funny — my two favorite things in reading material!”- ADAM BEECHEN, writer on TV’s HIHI PUFFY AMI YUMI and TEEN TITANS
ZAPT!: “Giant robots and aliens and space battles AND the Tuskegee Airmen? I am so there!”- FRED VAN LENTE, writer of Marvels SPIDER-MAN and IRON MAN
ZAPT!: “It’s got all the right elements for a great series. Action, fun characters, and a sense of humor”- JAMAL IGLE, artist on DC’s WONDER WOMAN and Marvel’s WOLVERINE
ZAPT!: “ZAPT! is a definite winner! I was hooked from page one”- ERIC BATTLE, artist on DC’s BATMAN and Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN
Mr. Barbera will be sorely missed. I am so glad I got to work/visit with this man while I was at Warner Brothers. It wasn’t his legendary contributions to the animation industry that made this man impressive (though that was certainly cool) but it was his love for his wife Sheila and the fact that even into his 90’s he still came into the office and found time to joke with chuckleheads like me. My best to the Barbera family.
